i love a slice of warm apple pie. there is something about it that is so comforting, nostalgic, and good. i don’t eat pie regularly, but when the holidays hit i have to say that i do look forward to a piece of pie. apple pie. not pumpkin. apple. i just like it the best. my friend kellie is a piece of apple pie; she is deliciously warm and perfectly sweet with just a little hit of spice.

i was thrilled to meet more of her “filling” during their vacation to california this summer. honored, rather, to have been able to photographer her family pictures this year. it’s a bit intimidating to photograph another photographer’s family, but they immediately welcomed me and i forgot all the intimidations. ;) i enjoying being with them so much; just like kellie they are all so warm and welcoming and deliciously in love with each other;  they made it so easy to “bite into their sweetness”.

they have some cinnamon in them too. i love cinnamon, such a good flavor. ;)

it’s kind of like the attitude of apple pie.

i have always, since i met her, felt a closeness to kellie; she is such good people. seeing her with her husband was something really special. shannon is a true gentleman, a rare breed. he too, is apple pie.

and the apples of their eye: dalton and emma. i hope my children grow up to be as sweet and “perfectly baked” as them.

this family is down home goodness. they are from kentucky. doesn’t that just speak apple pie too? i could listen to them talk all day; their accent drips like tasty filling; it’s so yummy. I LOVE IT!!!!

kellie, shannon, dalton, and emma, i can’t wait for more pie!! when? kellie, let’s “make” something happen soon. i miss you, friend! thank you again for sharing some time with me. i feel so connected with we are together. grateful for you and our “warm and comforting” friendship.

considering her entire family makes me feel so happy; they are such good people.

i felt honored to be the one to take their family pictures this year.

some people just have them.

i hope that people see growth with my family. not just in how much the kids literally grow, but in how we grow closer to each other with the years and the experiences we have as a family. i think it’s a really neat thing to see actually, in ourselves and in others. i photographed this family a couple of years ago; it was so neat to meet with them again and to see how their family has grown, literally and figuratively.

every time i met with casey it makes me feel sad that we weren’t closer when we lived right by one another. i appreciate the way she feels about things, how she sees the world, and her scope on life and progression. if perspective, compassion, imagination, and understanding are genetic, i hope all of her children inherit those traits from their gorgeous mother.

i know they inherited her eyes; no doubt about it:

the tie, which tied (pun intended) everything together gets a little extra love, because i loved the color pop. :)

so does the adorable doll-face wearing it…

if patience, mild-mannered-ness, open-hearted-ness, and  warmth are genetic traits then these babies inherited them from their dad, jr.

a week ago yesterday, i spent the entire day with my friend. julie is so talented at what she does. if left the day feeling uplifted and inspired, and two seconds after i shut my car door to go home i was already missing my friend and planning our next “hang-out” in my head!! julie, i am so glad we met!!! thank you for the friendship, encouragement, love, and support you offer me; i am grateful for you!!! there is something so magical about you and everything you do!

julie had a newborn shoot scheduled for the am in san pedro. i had a couples shoot scheduled for the pm. so i assisted her and she assisted me. i learned so much from julie and was so happy to be there to help and just be with someone who is so mellow and calm, that it made me feel way mellow and totally calm. i also loved seeing how she created so much of what she does. it was really cool to be a part of a shoot with her. if you are pregnant, or have a brand new baby, or even a not so brand new baby, RUN to julie’s studio and book a session with her today; it will be one of the best things you ever did!! :)

tina has four of her six kids in braces. that right there should communicate plenty about her. her husband is serving in afghanistan and she is raising six children on her own. she works full-time, drives over-time, and sleeps none of the time. her life is like a tub of ping pong balls and she constantly holds them all down with a smile, charisma, and such a charming personality. she balances the world on her little finger. i am not sure how she does it all, but she does, and she manages to do it with tremendous amount of compassion and love for her family and those around her. for the years we have known her she has been one of our most fabulous friends, and from there came her nickname: t fab

her kiddos, her world, are pretty fabulous too. she has the type of kid everyone hopes to have someday: they all look you in the eye when talking to you, ask you questions about your life and family, make jokes, are smiley and happy. they are a total blessing to her and her name.

steve-o is heading to college soon. t fab is going to feel a loss; i know it. i also know she is proud and so happy for her son and all of his hard work and accomplishment.

kaden will feel a loss too. big bro  and best friend isn’t going to be around as much. that’s tough, but it won’t be long before they are living together, at school, again.

kaden is the chronic smiler. i LOVE it!!

crue is the middle man, but his spirit is strong and his humor is funny. i like him. very much.

t fab added two to her family since we met last. when we shot these was the first time i met donovan (such a great name). i can tell her adds texture and another color to this vibrant family.

and rosie. i love that name. it’s rosalynn actually, even better. so shakespearean and classic. she is such a love. good thing she’s around. t fab needs something to dress up besides herself every once in a while.

and the newest, yummiest, has fab-written-all-over-him addition? SUPPEERRRRR MAX!!

i used to always tell my students that my kids would be my opus: my greatest accomplishment. i know tina fabulous feels the same way.

and you tina, are a gift to this world. those who know you are lucky. those who feel of your spirit and love are grateful beyond belief. and you are beautiful. in every sense of the word.

and your family, is undeniably, special. ;)
