last week i spent a day with my good friend and colleague julie rollins. we had, essentially, four shoots packed in to one day. there was so much on the agenda, and all of it was accomplished. especially the scheduled hanging, and laughing, and enjoying one another’s company.
we presented our ideas and shannon and brian totally jumped on board; it was incredible!!

we shot maternity most of the day. but somewhere in the middle we hit the extreme opposite and did some way-glammed-out head shots for a local salon and a possible publication in a cosmetology magazine:

and then we went back to finish the day in the pretty light with our original subject, my good friend shannon, who is expecting her 3rd boy!! ;) more from our shoot and our fun soon. thank you shannon and brian for being our models, and my friends!!

thanks julie, for the day and for everything!!! xxoo to you all, kj
a week ago yesterday, i spent the entire day with my friend. julie is so talented at what she does. if left the day feeling uplifted and inspired, and two seconds after i shut my car door to go home i was already missing my friend and planning our next “hang-out” in my head!! julie, i am so glad we met!!! thank you for the friendship, encouragement, love, and support you offer me; i am grateful for you!!! there is something so magical about you and everything you do!
julie had a newborn shoot scheduled for the am in san pedro. i had a couples shoot scheduled for the pm. so i assisted her and she assisted me. i learned so much from julie and was so happy to be there to help and just be with someone who is so mellow and calm, that it made me feel way mellow and totally calm. i also loved seeing how she created so much of what she does. it was really cool to be a part of a shoot with her. if you are pregnant, or have a brand new baby, or even a not so brand new baby, RUN to julie’s studio and book a session with her today; it will be one of the best things you ever did!! :)
a week ago yesterday, i helped photograph baby liam:

this was my favorite:

a week ago yesterday, i photographed katie and dave in san pedro:

a week ago today i shot nutritionist and person extraordinaire jamie in old orange:

much love and happy saturday, kj
when you have a brand new baby, 6 months feels far away, especially when that baby cries all the time. for some reason everyone keeps saying, “just make it to the 6 months; just make it there. things will get better.” like it’s some magical age or something. like baby suddenly wakes up to find her personality and adds distinctive charm to her family. like she’s a new girl because she finally figured out night and day and gets good rest. like she is content because her belly is full of something besides liquid. like she is happy because she can roll over, move herself, and is entertained by something other than a midnight feeding. unless you are a child born in my house, who cries for almost the first year of life ;)… 6 months actually does equal all those things: a whole lot of good stuff:

it has been so cool to be a part of this little girl’s life, photographically. know how the president has a personal photographer? i guess i kind of get to be baby ruby’s personal photographer. it’s cool, and flattering and i love it. follow the journey first here, then here, and now where you are currently. growth, on any level, is so incredible to observe especially in the form of chubby yumminess with massive bows the size of baby’s head.
my girlfriend april and i say in relation to bows, “the bigger the better!” i think amy would agree:

amy was joking about how she needed an intervention when it came to bows; i laughed as i opened larkin’s drawer and disclosed to her that i too needed bow intervention as pieces of hair phloof bulged from the box inside and fell from my filled hands to the floor. we will go together amy! ;)

ruby really is a little piece of magic; all she had to do was turn 6 months for us to see it. ;)

baby ruby, may you always be able to hold your head high even with the weight of those bows your designer mother puts on your head! ;) can’t wait to see what accessory you have at a year!! i love watching you grow. you are a special baby who has a special mission to fulfill in this life! you are lucky to have been born to such a rad family who cares so deeply about you! ;)
amy, it always feels like a play date when we are together; i love that!! thank you for sharing your family and all of their milestones with me; so grateful!!
here’s to more good stuff. xoxo, kj

this one if for amy; i know it is going to make her so happy.

and this one is for my collection; i know it is going make a lovely addition in my menagerie of phloof.
ruby turned 6 months!! more phloof coming!!
