Kamee June Photography bio picture

the looks of my life, the looks of my loves, and what I look like

i love the look on jaren’s face when we are at a party and I catch him staring at me from across the room, looking at me like he is seeing me for the first time. i love the smile i get from gunnar when we are on the carpet playing cars, trains, or dinosaurs; he stares at me amazed, like i am the coolest mom who has motorized and prehistoric sounds coming from my mouth. i am in love with the look i get from my new baby girl each morning when i get her out of bed; she beams because i am someone special to her. i love my parents’ faces when i walk through the doors of home after having been gone for a long time; their eyes fill with love, and i see a reminiscent comfort. i love the expression my sister gives when she realizes the adoption cleared; they will be getting another baby.  i love the weary grin on my brother’s face as he crosses the finish line of his 64th marathon.  i love the surprise on my girlfriend’s face when i gift her our favorite lip gloss we thought was discontinued. i love the look on my face when i find the perfect pair of slimming jeans or the most flattering swimsuit. i even love the look on children’s faces when they get all pouty and sad because they don’t get their way. i love the look of graduation day: the look of accomplishment, success, and the anticipated future. i love the look of a man totally devoted to one woman because she completes his heart. i love the look of unexpected surprises, the look of a fourth of july picnic, the look of first visits to disneyland, the look of falling stars, the look of winter's first snow, the look of a long overdue vacation, the look of winning soccer teams, the look of cookies fresh from the oven, the look of christmas morning, the look of family, the look of mothers drinking in their new babies, the look of unspoken yet powerfully present love. i love the expressions, the countenances, the features, and the presence of life and its undeniably endearing moments, and i love immortalizing them forever with my camera.

this blog fuses the looks of my life and looks of my loves. it follows my expressions of growth, both professional and personal, and it allows you to take a peek at my moments, my thoughts, and my heart.

i would love to meet your look.

the plan: the workshop will be split into two sessions to accommodate more photographers and their individualized interests.

kickin’ it in morning style

geared to the photography enthusiast interested in knowing what all the buttons mean and how to take a great picture; the photographer who is interested in a refresher course or perhaps a new perspective to fuse with a current one; all parents who want to take better pictures of their kids’ little league games, dance recitals, sleeping faces and bubble baths.

the morning session includes:

three hours of instruction time (9:00am-12:00pm), a full shoot, and some surprises i will have waiting for you. the class time will include my perspective, what i shoot with, how i shoot it, the way i shoot it, basically how i see things and where my inspiration comes from. i’ll cover some basics: lighting, equipment, and composition. i also plan to discuss several tips to help shoot a successful exposure of any subject. the morning session will also include two full kamee june’d stylized shoots in a totally rad location, and of course a q/a session.

kickin’ it into the afternoon style

geared to the seasoned professional photographer; the photographer interested in starting a small business, and the junkie that wants to perfect his/her post processing prowess.

the afternoon session includes:

the class time will include ideas for marketing, branding, blogging, post processing tips and hints from photoshop, a few surprises, and of course a full q/a session; ask me whatever you want; i’ll disclose! ;)

you can choose to kick it just in the morning or kick it all day and soak it all up. either way, it’s going to be incredible.

side kicks with kamee june: the first two in a series

i like mini-serieses on tv. i like most books that run in a series. i love  a series of unexpected surprises.

keep reading. i have one for you!

it’s almost time for my first set, in a series, of side kicks with kamee june (thanks for the name idea, rhonda!! shout out to, YOU!) my plan is basically this: i will be offering two side kicks a month a technical side of photography and also a how-to side. one week technical. one week how-to. they will be intensive: instruction, demonstration, and a fully-stylized shoot; 2-3 hours total. (FYI: EVERYTHING YOU SHOOT AT THE SIDE KICKS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE IN YOUR PORTFOLIO BUILDING!! side kicks are smaller than a workshop, more intimate, so everyone will be able to have pole position when it comes to shooting.) and of course a q/a on the topic of the side kick. and probably dinner afterwards if anyone wants to eat something. ;)

the first side kick will be on sept 17th, in corona, california (location details to follow). its topic? the basis of all photography? light.

we will discuss open shade, back light, side light, front light, over-head light, and night-light and how to adjust  your settings, and yourself, to get a great exposure shooting in all types of light. we will also discuss which light is best for certain subjects and how to make light work for you!

IMG_0178anthro2blog

IMG_2186gentryduckblog

IMG_7506lblog

1st in a series of technical side kicks with kamee june: light

when: friday, september 17th, 400pm-730pm (this one will be longer so we can observe and shoot in different types of light. also, if anyone is interested we will break for dinner let it get really dark, and then shoot around in night light, just for fun.)

where: corona, california location tba

how much: $195.00 (your side kicks pass includes: instruction time, a fully-stylized shoot designed to help you build your portfolio, and a few goodies to take home. dinner is not included in your tuition.)

registration for these will be limited, like i said, my goal is to keep them intimate. if you are interested, jump on it.

it’s going to be…en-lightening. pun. totally intended!

IMG_8287whitanddrewblog

the first in my series of how-to’s will be how to shoot families. we are gearing up for the holidays which means christmas card season; family photographs are upon us. :) this side kick with discuss what i do to help my families be comfortable, how i get them positioned, and what works to create natural images of a family enjoying time together.

IMG_8365dicksonfamily

first in the how-to series of side-kicks with kamee june: how to shoot a family

when: friday, september 24th 500pm-730pm (i’ll for sure eat after if anyone wants to join me.)

where: corona, california location tba

how much: $195.00 (your side kicks pass includes: instruction time, a fully-stylized shoot designed to help you build your portfolio, and a few goodies to take home. dinner is not included in your tuition.

once again, registration is limited.

trying to think of a good family pun. i am at a loss. anyone? bueller? bueller?

i am looking forward to these side kicks, the opportunity to build a greater photography community, and the chance to meet all of you!! would love to kick it!! hope to see you on september 17th and 24th and the 2nd of oct at the big workshop (details and registration for that to follow.)

the debate: team edward or jacob

the debate will be eternal. the argument plays repeatedly. objectivity really doesn’t exist. it can’t. really. shall we go there? ;) jaren and i debate all the time about literature and how it is impossible to grade students objectively on something that is so subjective. it’s one reason he hated his english class so much: his interpretation was always different than his teacher’s and she consequently marked him down for it. are we, as humans, capable of being objective, when everything that makes us who we are is so subjective?

here’s the thing: life is subjective. everything about it is totally open to interpretation, just because i like something doesn’t mean the person standing next to me is going to be as passionate about it, and that’s what makes us all interesting and textured and cool. i am going to get everyone all bothered when i say that i don’t think harry potter is that great of a wizard, or when i say that i am probably the only person who hasn’t bought into the twilight novels or the teams edward or jacob; i just don’t care or particularly like them. that’s my opinion. it is what it is. but my girlfriends who love them don’t care that i don’t. they actually invite me along because i have something different to say about the subject. my point is, everyone is going to look at things differently. that’s fine. it’s good actually. it makes for really great conversation and insight; it takes thought to deeper levels which is really cool. it’s smart to consider something different from what you consider. i would never, however, call stephanie meyer and tell her that i didn’t care for edward or jacob, because first, she didn’t solicit advice or feedback from me, and second, who cares? she doesn’t. a zillion people love her work. she is making a bazillion dollars at bookstores and the box office. she doesn’t care if some don’t think she is a talented writer who touches the human spirit on a profound level. all she cares about is that her three boys all wear gap kids now instead of target’s circo. (she probably cares about other things too; i am sure she does. and there is nothing wrong with circo, both of my children sport it daily. ;))

life is about choices. if you don’t like what you are seeing, hearing, reading, etc. then block out the voice! i don’t read the twilight series because i choose not to; there are other novels that interest me more. WE have the choice to turn off that extrinsic force: turn off the radio, leave the theater, return the book, or exit out of the web page. it’s easy. if you don’t like what you see go somewhere else; fill your life with what fills you, but make it things that will take you to a higher level of thought and living.

i love the images i am about to showcase. i love the people who helped create them. to me they are cool, and noteworthy, and distinctive, and that’s all the matters.

IMG_0829kierikickinwithgusblog

a few weeks ago i kicked it with gus, a hobbiest photographer with a keen eye for life and freezing it with his camera. he is a shy, humble guy so there aren’t any links to him, but hopefully he will chime in soon with some of what he captured during our shoot together, because he did so well and got so many great images!! thank you gus for your humble spirit and enthusiasm to learn; i am grateful for that!

massive props to katrina of kitsch for all of the stylings for the shoot. hair, make-up, and wardrobe were all her creation. if you are looking for someone to style anything for you, she is the one to contact. plus her heart is so good; she somehow understands everyone’s debates. you will contact her to make you beautiful for something and will leave with a new friend.

IMG_0724kierikickinwithgusblog

and a thank you to keiri. it really couldn’t have been possible with out someone to take pictures of. ;) you have the spirit of a quiet lion in that tiny frame!! i am so glad we met.

gus, katrina, and keiri, thank you all so much. you are all art to me, no debate about it. ;)

mrm: most recent muse

i loved kickin’ it today with my friend gus. he is such a kind hearted person, just so good and so nice. it was refreshing being with someone so mellow and so interested and passionate about photography!! gus, thanks for comin’ out, and for sharing a photographic day with me! i can’t wait to see what you captured.

i was flipping over some of the images i was able to snag during our shoot.

the ever-talented and incredible katrina of kitsch did the styling for today’s shoot. it was so different and so awesome. dirty and grungy, and i. loved. it!! i felt so inspired by what she created and by the model she used to create it all!! thank you to katrina, for being who you are: style guru, fashionista divine, and true friend.

AND a thank you to my mrm, most recent muse: keiri. i could have shot you until the skies turned black, and then waited on baited breath for the light to birth to start again. it was a pleasure meeting you, and capturing your energy today! thank you for being so willing!!!

here is just a sneak peek at what gus and i were able to photograph all afternoon. more soon.

kat, keiri, and gus, thank you so much for making today possible!!!
