catching up

i have a folder on my desktop called, “pictures to blog”. it contains all the pictures of my kids that need to be edited, blogged, printed, and then slipped into their albums. well, that is what happens in an ideal world. needless to say, it is full. i am so far behind on so many things. i thought it was time though to give some blogger love to my littles, and do a little catch up.

age: 4

thinks he: is a transformer

likes: corn-dogs for breakfast, top 20 music (he knows most of the words to my favorite songs. he really likes the ting tings, that’s not my name.); to pretend that i am every disney character under the sun(i pretend to be the characters, he tells me what to say, and that is about it. he really likes it when i am cinderella; he likes to talk to the mice. then he switches my character on me, and he wants me to be sleeping beauty, then he shoots me with a pretend gun and tells me to become little mermaid; it gets exhausting after awhile.); so you think you can dance (he kind of has to watch it since it is my favorite…i think he likes it because he gets to stay up late), and he also loves his friends and wants to have them over all the time.(and i really love his friends because then i don’t have a barnical attached to me all day); he really likes to talk about poop and pee. (jaren came home the other day and reported that one of the guys at work told everyone a story in the trailer about said like. apparently the topic, for guys, never gets old.)

he would swim all day long if i let him. is learning to ride a bike. loves cotton candy ice cream. squeezes the poop (yes i said it) out of his sister. and has a really uncanny sense of smell.

he likes to play this game similar to hide and seek. only you stay where you are and count and he hides, right in front of your face. he loves it. whatever.

he’s silly, and says stuff like, “mom, your a doo-doo boo-boo sauss-sauss boo baass.” then he laughs. hard. like it is open mic night at the apollo and he is the hottest no-name in the place.

(left the food on his teeth and the milk on his mouth, because that’s funny, and him.)

sometimes out of nowhere he just hits his head because he thinks that is funny too. again, whatever.

we went on a gondola ride with our neighbors a few months ago. if we closed our eyes it would have felt like italy. sort of. (the injury resulting in a bandaid-ed forehead was traumatic. so traumatic i don’t remember what it was. that means it probably was a bump or a scratch or  maybe he hit himself on the head a little too hard…something that could only be healed by covering the gashing and bloody wound. if he tells me he needs a band-aid, and it will stop the crying, i get him a band-aid. i am all about pleasing the people.)

gunnar, who has a bladder of double-titanium steel, told us 3/4 of the way that he needed to go to the bathroom. we were in the middle of the canal. just then baby started crying and couldn’t be appeased. so gunnar relieved himself over the edge and i breast feed baby (i am not the most graceful at that and she was starting to get big so it was really awkward. we were covered by the way.) in the back of the gondola.

stay classy huntington beach, stay classy.

he is a smart kid. remembers everything (which is scary). and if you stink he will tell you so.

age: 9 months

thinks she: owns the place and is the boss of me

likes: to poo in her pants (her brother thinks that is hysterical), her milk on the rocks, deep philosophical conversations about the state of the union, to quote shakespearean sonnets, long massages after a warm bath, chew toys dipped in chocolate, boys named carson and preston and her big brother’s bff, caden, etsy shopping for jewelry, and long army crawl walks on the beach

she has read the entire encyclopedia britannica a-z. twice. harvard has called; they are offering a full-ride.

she has her dad whipped. if she asked him to build her winter, spring, summer and fall playhouses, he would. and they would all be decorated perfectly, to her liking.

her brother is fond of her too, except when she smells like stinky cheese. (two things he hates, stink and cheese. who hates cheese? that’s just un-american.)

if you could eat giggles, hers would stop world hunger.

she is edible.

if you ever meet her i will let you have a nibble.

she can have some attitude too, but i love it.

she has transformed from rotten infant to sublime child. she’s pretty too. good thing. we might have sold her a long time ago if she wasn’t so pretty.

i can’t wait until she starts talking; i really want to know what she thinks of carrying those cheeks around all day…

(this was taken a few months ago before her hair came in…)

and here’s proof that it happened. still feeling so relieved to be done with grad school. jaren is considering an mba. i support him wholeheartedly, but i kind of get a little throw-up in the back of my mouth when i think of what he is embarking on. to much information? let that be a vibrant illustration of how happy i am to be finished and on this end of things…not his. but j, you can do it, and you will feel so accomplished when you are done, and i support you, and can help you with mean, medium, and mode…(those of you who know me are laughing right now. i am the most right-brained person alive. jaren and kim (my sis-in-law) had to practically spoon feed me my semester of mean, medium, and mode. i avoid numbers and math like the black plague.)

my brother-in-law took these. thanks jonathan for working the camera. that’s my mom in the background giving the “you did it”!

i think my kids and my man are just happy to have their mom/wife back. sort of. mac, my other man, has taken up the time that grad school used to occupy.

i hope my kids go to college one day. and if they decide to be models, in rock bands, or truck drivers, i will support those decisions too. i will especially support the decision to be ceo’s of multi-million dollar corporations. i’m just saying that would be nice.

thanks to my family for making the trek and for supporting:

my sweet dad. he is so tender. he cries when i call him to check in on saturdays. you can image the flood created at my grad-school graduation. it is really so sweet and endearing.

and my nieces who are no strangers to this blog:

the fourth was great; it ended with a bang. (pun totally intended)

my birthday is coming in a few weeks. i want this. jaren is taking donations.

jaren just came and told me he was going to pull the plug on mac. i better go.

p.s. some cool stuff coming…i am working on some really neat shoots from utah, i have a shoot scheduled with a sailboat on monday, laura and david’s wedding (so excited), and then a really busy august with my summer writing program (i help seniors write their college application essays. i still have space if you know of anyone who needs a bit of extra help), and some really exciting shoots with people i can’t wait to meet, a trip to az to see family and do some shooting, hopefully a little family vacation, hopefully…it is all going turbo speed too…that’s how we roll.

i will blog more often. i will blog more often. i will blog more often. i will buy more shoes. i will buy more shoes. wait…i mean, i will be productive and blog more often and not spend money on beautiful new shoes. i will blog more often. i will go and be with my family before jaren takes a bat to mac…

bean and the moving boxes

we almost didn’t have enough time. danielle originally wanted to schedule something for august when her baby would be six months. then i got word that they had received orders and would be leaving by the end of june. we had to work fast, but we made it happen. i only spent three hours with them, but i am already feeling homesick for my new friends, and am looking forward to their return to sunny california. i loved them immediately and found myself wanting to hear all their stories, know their interests, and be their friend…for life. danielle, mac, and little mac are really, really good people.

i knew i was going to like danielle from our first email. she has a name stamp that says, “Love, Danielle, Babes, D, Tallulah, Squirt, whatever you want to call me”. She has a lot of nicknames. i LOVE nicknames too. in true kamee form i got the story behind all of them:

danielle: well, that’s her name.

babes: that’s what mac calls her

d: short for danielle

tallulah: the name of a famous old hollywood actress; danielle reminds her mom of the actress

squirt: term of endearment from her dad, because she isn’t on the taller side of things

whatever you want to call me.

this is what i call danielle:

warm-hearted, peaceful, calm, gracious, thoughtful, interesting, and totally and undeniably beautiful. i would call her, lady, because she is one, in every sense of the word.

i wasn’t surprised when the baby was introduced by a nickname: bean. of course i asked for the story. they gave him that early on when they went for the first ultrasound because he looked… like a little bean.

and what a delicious bean he is.

i called him every version of bean i could think of:

little bean,

and beanie baby.

he is such a gorgeous baby. seriously. so, so, cute!!

i hope the nickname sticks. i think it is perfect for him!!

(great drool in this one… i kept it in just for the memory and the laugh at where it landed…)

in the arena of baby, he is mellow, as mellow as they come.

he is loved so profoundly, and is a gift to his already exceptional parents.

mac is a navy man; he went to the academy and has spent the last several years of his life serving our country. i grew up in the air force; my dad was an air force chaplain for 25 years; i have an affinity for any branch of service and i feel especially patriotic and grateful for all that these men and women do for us and our country, mostly because i was surrounded by it my whole life and saw their sacrifices first hand. mac understands freedom deeply; i appreciate his willingness to serve and protect our country and our rights.

don’t let the navy “tough guy” stereotype fool you though. he is one of the friendliest people i have met in a long time. i really enjoyed the conversations we were having about life, choices, raising children, and service. he is a good man.

and he has nothing but love and respect for babes. the pair met in 3rd grade folks, and have been together since. that’s a love story for you. the two have already been together an eternity.

when mac received the call that he was being transfer, he and danielle considered him making the tour of duty alone. then she would have stayed alone in their home with the baby while he went ahead. that would have been seven months of bean’s life he missed out on, and time with babes that he didn’t want to sacrifice. so they decided to pack up their home, rent it out, and move on a seven month adventure. I don’t think they will regret the choice in the long run. this family was meant to be together.

when danielle told me there would be boxes in their home, i felt inspired. why not include them in their photographs since it is a part of their life. if i had a dollar for all the boxes i have seen in my life due to all of our moves i could bail america out of this huge financial crisis we are in. alright, i am hyperbolizing, but when you are in the service and you move a lot you do see a lot of boxes. they kind of become members of the family…

i loved this image. i love all of these actually but i really like the composition here. before they had bean this guy was the baby. i forgot the puppy’s name, so i will just give him/her a nickname for now…casino. i have always wanted to name a dog casino. i guess i just did.

i loved this family shot even though we were losing the beaner. they are all just so handsome and so pretty:

danielle, mac, and bean, may you always have peace in your home and in your hearts; thank you for protecting ours. may you enjoy watching your baby grow; thank you for protecting that right too. may you come home soon; i miss you guys… thanks again for the time and the chance to meet such inspiring, down-to-earth, good and nice people. be safe in your travels and in your service.           xoxo kamee

and because it just wouldn’t be a proper post without a picture…my little firecracker on the 4th.

mary mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

look what’s growing in my garden this summer?

jaren and i decided to plant our first garden this spring/summer. it’s a “salsa garden” a “postage stamp” garden, nothing fancy, but it has taken off like gang-bangers. tonight we plucked our first tomato.

it is amazing how you dig a hole in the dirt, drop a seed in, throw on some cow poop, set the sprinklers to water, and then it magically grows stuff. it has actually been really cool to watch. i have especially liked being in the garden with gunnar and seeing his reaction to the growth.

these pictures are originals, from our garden. no kidding. we really can cultivate the earth. congrats us!

a big, huge shout-out to jen of j.fields photography for being one of my number one muses, a major photography yoda in my life, a friend, a shoulder, a believer, an artist, and the designer of this storyboard template. major kudos to her. thanks jen.

i am running out of things to give you in return for all your generosity.

how about some zucchini? apparently it produces baskets upon baskets.

baby gianna stop growing; stay little forever

i checked my june calendar.

last day of school for gun. trip to utah. lunch with rachelle, liza, kelley, hopefully sherami, hopefully katy. doctor appointments for both littles. bri’s b-day, sadie’s b-day, and jc’s b-day. AND baby gianna’s 6 month shoot. has it already been 6 months? no way. we just shot her newborn pictures. i was so excited to see this gorgeous baby, her darling brother, her kind-hearted mother, and her dedicated father that I couldn’t stop smiling the closer it got to our shoot date.

in fact the day of the phone rang. caller id told me it was amanda, gianna’s mom, i think i might have skipped to the phone; i was so excited to talk to her.

as parents i know we want our children to grow, be strong, and reach each milestone when it is expected. sometimes though, and i think it is safe to speak for the majority of us, we wish we could slow the clocks down, just a bit. (maybe some of us want the clocks to speed up a bit. i am sure we all have those days too.)

it is magical to watch a child grow, for sure one of life’s gifts.

amanda is just as fanatical about gianna’s bows as i am larkin’s. they will wear them, we say, rather demand…no matter what. right amanda?

i love this image:

baby folds:

baby toes:

and beautiful baby:

she really is such a gorgeous little. wow! i loved this moment: mom talking to brother while balancing sister. all mothers have been there. at least 10 times a day. i also thought baby’s expression was so sweet:

quick change of pants and wardrobe:

and we we’re off. to the lemon grove.

most babies come with great expressions, but i thought hers were particularly sweet. don’t you just want to nibble those cheeks? she is delicious! my girlfriend joy would give her a flavor. what would it be joy? lemon drop souffle? she isn’t really tart at all. peaches and cream? what do you think joy?

i have to admit that i am crushing on gianna’s big brother. he too could be eaten. so sweet.

such a love. i just want to squeeze him when i see him!

and such a good big brother.

a few of the family together. love this image and all the expressions:

then baby said, “enough! if you put me on the ground again i am going to let you really have it. don’t put me down there. i am warning you. don’t do it.”

then she let us have it. she gave us warning at least.

so we decided to let her rest a bit. another change, a little bit of a drive and then we landed on some pretty light.

and we stayed in that spot until the really, really pretty light found us.

the next two pictures are not technically perfect; they are not sharp in terms of focus, but the moment and the lighting was priceless:

nico played with mike, and soaked in the evening’s fading summer sun.

gianna cooed, laughed, and snuggled her mom.

one of my favorites. it reminds me of something i do with my kids: “i’ll give you eskimo kisses, butterflies kisses, and a whole lot of mommy kisses!” then i kiss all over them until they push me away. someday i will try to kiss them like that and it won’t be cool anymore, but for now while they are little, i am going to fill up on any type of kiss, eskimo, butterfly, or mommy, i can get.

amanda, mike, nico, and gianna, may you enjoy all the minutes, as they tick fast or slow, together. thank you for the opportunity to watch this baby grow with you; she is lovely; all of you are lovely!

xxoo, kj
